Tortuguero Neutering Program

Programa Castraciones Tortuguero Close to 300 domestic animals have received medical attention and were neutered  during veterinary clincis that promote ProParques in alliance with the Veterinary School of the National University, the Humanitarian Association for Animal Protection (AHPPA), Faryvet Laboratories, Caribbean Conservation International, the Association of Turtle Development, the Turtle Guides Association, the National Park and the community. This work is carried out with the purpose for these animals to no longer reproduce, thus eliminating a natural predator of turtle eggs and newly born turtles produced in the park. The compensation received for this initiative reach $25,000 in total contributions, in kind (medicines and veterinary doctor hours)

Additionally they emphasize other achievements such as: Community integration, Trainings in schools and high schools about care for animals and the benefits of animal castration (spayed/neutered), as well as the promotion of donations for works and projects in communal development in the Tortugero National Park.
